Taormina

Taormina is perched high above the southern end of the Strait of Messina, on the eastern side of Sicily. It is probably the most famous tourist destination in Sicily and has been popular since the 19th century. The views are spectacular, down over the clear blue water around Isola Bella, and southwards to the towering splendour of mount Etna, often complete with columns of fire spewing into the sky above. As well as one of the prettiest town centres on the Island, Taormina also boasts the ruins of a Roman theatre, the second largest on Sicily after Siracusa, where frequent music concents and other events are held during the summer months.
