Italy have won the Euro 2020 Football Championship. The 'Azzurri', lead by captain, Giorgio Chiellini, and coached by Roberto Mancini, beat England in a penalty shootout 3 to 2. The cheers from the Italian crowd in Rome was so loud that it registered as an earthquake on the country's seismic monitors. President, Sergio Mattarella, who attended the final at Wembley stadium in England, said afterwards, "Compliments! Last night you deserved to win well above and beyond the penalties because you had two heavy handicaps: playing in your opponents' home in a stadium like Wembley and the quick goal that would have felled anyone. You were accompanied and surrounded by the affection of the Italians and you paid them back paying honour to sport." It is the second time Italy has won the championship. The Italian team return home to a hero's welcome from fans and, at a reception held in the team's honour at the Presidential Palace in Rome, Mancini thanked the President, telling him, "it is a victory to dedicate to all the Italians!"
